From Roots to Remedies—An Herbalist’s Journey
Growing up, I had this sprawling list of aspirations and dreams for adulthood but narrowing it down was always a challenge! Yet, through all the options I considered, one thing remained constant—I wanted whatever I did to be about helping others, whether they were people or animals.
In 2010, my journey took a significant turn when I joined "The Orchid House," a charming local florist. Initially hired as a delivery driver, I soon found myself enchanted by the world of plants and nature during quieter moments in the shop. As I handled incoming plants and flowers, I stumbled upon something truly remarkable.
Exploring the diverse array of plants, I uncovered their hidden medicinal properties, diving deep into the ancient practice of Herbalism. This newfound knowledge was especially meaningful given my own health challenges—Lupus, PCOS, Endometriosis, Psoriasis, and Psoriatic Arthritis—all of which are chronic and autoimmune-related. Opting for herbal remedies over heavy prescriptions, I immersed myself in researching herbs and their incredible medicinal benefits, amazed by their effectiveness with minimal side effects compared to conventional Western medicine.
When my first child was born, my approach to healthcare took a personal turn. While unsure about vaccines and traditional medicine, I was steadfast in integrating herbal remedies into my child's life. From using garlic oil for ear infections to soothing tummy aches with peppermint and ginger tea, and calming restless nights with lavender and chamomile, these natural solutions became our go-to. Fueled by this transformative journey, I resolved to create my own herbal remedies and help others on similar paths. After years of dedicated research and learning from leading herbalists, I took the leap and officially launched my business in Georgia in 2023.
With the arrival of my second child, I doubled down on our holistic approach. We reduced unnecessary doctor visits, opting instead for what felt safe and natural for us. Switching to a pediatrician aligned with our values, we ceased vaccinations, minimized over-the-counter medications, and adopted regular herbal detox routines. The positive impact on our health, evidenced by improved bloodwork results, was truly affirming.
It's been a challenging but incredibly rewarding adventure, living out my passion and sharing it with my family and friends. I am excited to share it with my community as well. Please remember, while I do have my own opinions, I am not a medical professional. I do not advise against seeking medical advice or guidance. Western medicine can be beneficial in some situations, and healthcare practitioners are sometimes necessary for things we cannot do ourselves. That being said, I do urge others to try a natural approach whenever possible. It is truly amazing what herbs can do for us—mind, body, and soul.
